Setting alerts that are actually useful
Round numbers attract attention, and crypto prices often wobble around them. If you want to know when Bitcoin breaks a level, set the alert slightly past it (for example $101,000 instead of $100,000) to avoid firing on a brief poke.
Percentage alerts suit volatile coins. A ±5% alert on a large coin like Ethereum marks an unusually big move for a day; on a small-cap or meme coin, 10–15% is closer to ordinary noise. Check the coin's recent 24h and 7d swings on the price table before you pick a number.
Alerts are checked against an aggregated price that updates about once a minute, so a spike that lasts seconds on one exchange may not trigger them. That's intentional: it filters out single-venue glitches.
Questions people ask
Are these crypto price alerts free?
Yes, completely, and there is no signup. Alerts are saved in your browser and checked against live prices every 60 seconds.
Do alerts work when the page is closed?
No. Because nothing is stored on a server, a PortfolioTrack tab has to be open (it can be in the background) for alerts to be checked. For round-the-clock alerts while your computer is off you need an exchange app or a server-based service that holds your contact details.
How will I be notified?
With a browser notification if you allow it, plus a short tone and a banner on the page. Each alert fires once and is then marked as triggered, so it will not spam you.
Can I set a percentage move alert?
Yes. Choose "moves by" and enter a percentage: the alert fires when the price has risen or fallen that much from the price at the moment you created it.
