How crypto conversion rates work

Every coin here is priced in US dollars first, as a volume-weighted average across many exchanges. Converting BTC to ETH simply divides the two dollar prices; converting to euros or rupees uses CoinGecko's exchange rates on top. That's the "mid-market" rate, the fair midpoint with no fees.

Real trades cost a little more. An exchange quotes a slightly higher price to buyers and a lower one to sellers (the spread), then adds a fee, often 0.1–1.5% depending on the platform and payment method. For small coins with thin order books the spread can be several percent. Use the result here as a benchmark to check the quote you're offered.

Questions people ask

How do I convert BTC to USD?

Pick Bitcoin on the left, US dollar on the right and type an amount. The result uses the live aggregated Bitcoin price, refreshed every minute.

Can I convert one crypto to another, like ETH to BTC?

Yes. Both sides accept any of the top 250 coins. Crypto-to-crypto rates are calculated through their US dollar prices.

Which fiat currencies are supported?

US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Swiss franc, Indian rupee, Turkish lira, Brazilian real, Nigerian naira and more; rates come from CoinGecko's exchange-rate feed.

Why is the converted amount different from what my exchange pays?

Exchanges add trading fees and a spread between buy and sell prices, and their price differs slightly from the market-wide average. Expect to receive a little less than the mid-market figure shown here.
